ABSTRACT This dissertation focuses on the intertextual relationship between the Old OT and New NT Testaments, with special attention to the hermeneutics of the author of Hebrews, in his use of texts from Deuteronomy and Haggai in the eschatological discourse of , and on the importance of hermeneutics of the apostolic period for the contemporary interpreter.
In the first part, several evangelical approaches to the understanding of the use of the OT in the NT are discussed, and the researcher shows that the methodology of Referentiae plenior is better, with its distinction between meaning and significance and with its perception that the divine author intended in the revelation of the OT greater significance than the human writers were able to apprehend.
In chapter 3, the researcher makes a critical textual analysis of texts from Deuteronomy and Haggai cited in Hebrews Chapters 4 and 5 present exegetical studies of Deuteronomy 4. The last chapter discusses the relationship between the writer of the epistle to the Hebrews with their theological and interpretive Jewish milieu, showing the absence of a direct dependency of the Christian writer from Jewish groups such as Philo, Qumran and Apocalyptic, keeping only a conceptual and linguistic relationship to the Jewish-Hellenistic context in which he was inserted.
In the same chapter, it is an analysis of the exegetical passage from Hebrews This fact proves the thesis of this researcher that the hermeneutics of the New Testament writers is still relevant and can be used as a model and a guide for the exegetical work of interpreters who follow the historical-grammatical method.
